Drumbank House

Back to Residential Care

Spark of Genius Residential homes for Children and Young People.

Drumbank House is a large detached house located within the Drumbank Estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The nearest village is Danderhall. Drumbank was recently renovated to a high standard. It has five bedrooms (one of which has en-suite facilities), 2 bathrooms upstairs, a toilet midway and downstairs provides a large kitchen, utility room and 3 large communal areas for young people. To the rear of the house there is a small garden area, however young people often spend time at the local park which is within walking distance.

Drumbank house provides short or long term residential placements for young people aged between 10 and 18. The staff team offer high quality care to all young people using a therapeutic approach to ensure that young people are cared for as individuals with often complex behavioural and emotional needs. The overarching aim is to offer young people a home in which they can feel safe and secure and reach their full potential.

All the young people who live in Drumbank have their own bedrooms and are encouraged to personalise them, ie colours of walls and duvet sets. This creates an atmosphere of participation and ensuring young people are treated as individuals with their own needs and wants.
Spark of Genius Residential homes for Children and Young People.Staff and young people participate in the day to day running of the house and decision making thus enabling young people to be empowered and have a voice in their home environment.

Young people are valued within the house and have reported that they feel listened too and safe within Drumbank. Young People and staff are encouraged to build positive working relationships, thus offering positive role modelling to the residents. Young people are actively encouraged to participate in external groups/clubs to enable them to establish positive relationships outwith their care home setting. Staff encourage the young people to have new experiences and challenges this broadens their experiences during their time with us.

Within Drumbank, all young people attend school. This can be within our own educational resource which is located in Musselburgh (which is approximately 5 miles away) or at another school setting.

We engage with all professionals involved in the young people’s lives but more importantly we ensure were applicable families are part of the young people’s care and education plans. We also have a Lead Clinical Psychologist who works as a consultant to the service.
